Veda Vyasa's Bhagavata, makes mention of Sthapatya Vedam as one of the Vedas that emerged from the land of Bharat in the remote past. It also makes mention of another Veda - Pranava Veda - that existed earlier to other Vedas such as Rig, Yajus, Sama, Atharva and also Ayurveda, Dhanurveda, Gandharva Veda and Sthapatya Veda.


Ayurveda is a science of medicine and its legendaries are Charaka, Sushruta etc.

Dhanurveda is a science of military warfare and its masters are Arjun, Ashwathama etc.

Gandharva Veda is a science of Art and Drama and its legendaries are Kavi Kalidas, Devarshi Narada.

Sthapatya Veda is a science of architecture that combines with Mathematics, Yoga Sutra, Quantum Physics and Planetary and Earth Science.

Sthapatya Veda was established as a language of architecture by Mayan.


Mahamuni Mayan

Mahamuni Mayan was the progenitor of Sthapatya Veda teachings. "He is considered as the Divine architect, scientist, technical wizard, poet and traditional builder, by name Mahamuni Mayan"

In ancient scriptures, Mayan or Mayasura was a great ancient king of the asuras, daityas and rakshasa races. Mayan was known for his brilliant in architecture. In Mahabharata, Mayasabha - the Hall of Illusions - was named after him. Mayan is credited with the authorship of the Mayamatama Sthapatya Veda, the Surya Siddhanta.

Sthapati is not only but also... an expert of the design of structure though he must have crossed 'the ocean of the science of architecture'. He needs to be balanced in body and mind and be nicely-versed in the all the traditional sciences in its numerous branches. He should have an urge and compassion about innovations. He must be alert about performance and be strong-willed.
