Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur (RCOEM), named after Shri Ramdeobaba, a fourteenth-century saint, was established in 1984 by Shri Ramdeobaba Sarvajanik Samiti, a registered charitable trust. The founder of the college is Shri Banwarilal Purohit, who is presently the Hon'ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator of the Union Territory of Chandigarh.

Shri Satyanarayan Nuwal is presently the chairman of Shri Ramdeobaba Sarvajanik Samiti. He is the president of Solar Industries India Limited and has been adjudged among the Best 100 CEOs of India by Business Today.RCOEM, an Autonomous Institute affiliated with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, is Accredited by NAAC with A+ Grade. The Institute has been consistently ranked by various ranking agencies like the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and also by magazines like India Today, Competitive Success Review (CSR), Outlook, etc. Most of the courses offered are accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).

RCOEM is recognized as a place of higher learning for engineering and management disciplines and has five centres of excellence supported by industries. RCOEM-TATA-CIIIT (Centre of Invention,  Innovation, In combion and Training), NVIDIA - Centre of Excellence in the area of "Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning", Centre for Microsystems with Intelligence, Energy Research Centre (ERC), RCOEM­ QCFI Centre of Human Excellence are promoting innovation and research.

To impart impetus to the innovation ecosystem,  the institution has established "RCOEM Technology Business Incubators Foundation" ( RCOEM -TBI), a section 8 company. RCO EM -TB I is currently nurturing/incubating more than 25 start-ups.
