The Department of Humanities is committed to carry out its vision of creating effective communicators with social and cultural sensitivity to enhance their employability.
As such, the Language Lab was established to provide students with a practical, activity-based environment that extends beyond theoretical learning. It serves as a dedicated space where group conversations, presentations, and GDs are conducted, enabling students to overcome stage fright and develop confidence in communication. The computing and software facility in the Lab by the University is to ensure effective hands-on training is made easily accessible to the students. To maintain its relevance with the real world, the Lab course has gone through various upgradations since its establishment in 2011.
The lab runs two courses, namely, English for Professional Communication Lab and Professional Communication Lab which have been developed as per the NEP 2020 guidelines, and have a weightage of one credit. The Lab includes sessions on the following communication skills:
- English for Professional Communication: Everyday Situations: Conversations and Dialogues – Speaking Skills; Pronunciation, Intonation, Stress, and Rhythm; Everyday Situations: Conversations and Dialogues – Listening Skills; Reading Skills; Public Speaking; Presentation Skills; Group Discussion
- Professional Communication Lab: Speaking Skills; Listening Skills; Reading, Presentation Skills; Group Discussion; Writing practice
Through guided practice (both collective and individual), peer interaction and continuous feedback, students improve their fluency, listening, presentation skills and teamwork, gaining the confidence to face professional obligations head-on. The Lab thus plays a vital role in shaping engineers who can express their ideas clearly and engage with confidence in professional settings.
